After School Programs |
A special day camp will be offered during the weeks of February and April school vacations. Each day will have chores as well as special activities and workshops focusing on different aspects of the farm and nature. Kids will play games and participate in hands-on activities. Many different activities will include crafts students can bring home for further exploration and learning. Each day will have a different theme focusing on the animals, the land and the seasons. Vacation camps are offered for students in first through sixth grade. 2010 Program Themes: February: Children will experience winter wilderness on the farm. Monday: Farm Work & Play Day Today you get to be a farmer for a day, learning about life on the Farm from sun up to sun down!! It will be your job to learn all about the animals, their products, and how to care for them. We will have a lot of fun spending time with the farm animals and we will feel proud at the end of a day of work & play!
Tuesday: Winter Green Thumb We are going to raid the potting shed today- pull out the garden gloves and get growing! We will mix compost, start seedlings and make our own indoor herb gardens to bring home. We will also till up the soil in the greenhouse raised beds and plant some seeds for an early spring harvest!
Wednesday: All about Chicks Chicks are fuzzy, cute and loads of fun! Come to the farm to meet the new arrivals, check the incubator for action, and learn about what these chicks will bring to the farm. We will learn all about hatching eggs, raising chicks, caring for chickens and even explore different types of farm birds!
Thursday: All about Donkeys The farm is home to 3 loveable and funny miniature donkeys, Francis, Pedro & Ole. Come and meet the donkeys, watch their silly antics and learn what they do at the farm. Meet the farrier, watch him trim their feet and check their hooves. Learn to brush, halter and walk the donkeys. We will even try and teach them a new trick!!
Friday: Winter on the Farm It’s COLD out there! On this camp day, we will explore how our animals survive through the winter months. We will check in on the goats and their new kids, feel the thick coats of the donkeys and cows, and count eggs as the chickens begin to lay more. We will even test our winter green thumbs in the greenhouse as we get ready to start seedlings for spring!
Vacation camp will run Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 4 PM. Campers may sign up for a day at a time or the whole week. The cost of each session is $250/week or $50/day.
